A day off? I think not.

By Cory

I didn’t expect much today. As it was the college kids’ day off (mid-semester break was Monday and today) I didn’t think there would be many people in ITS, and that there would be very little work to do. I was quite wrong.

The first thing I noticed was all the people in the room. I believe today was the time I saw the most people in the room at once. Tanasee, Steve, Gary, and Shaun were all there as usual, but Rob and Dickie were there a lot, and even Jeff was in there the whole day, even though he’s normally at the Help Desk in the library. There wasn’t too much in the uniqueness of the activities, but there was a lot going on. Apparently, they decided that since they wouldn’t be getting many tickets, that they would clean out the entire room. Throughout the entire day, everyone was constantly moving back and forth taking care of all the miscellaneous items just lying around. By the end of the day, the entire room looked cleaner than I’d ever seen it. In addition, Shaun made some last adjustments to his new work area, which looks a lot like his old office, minus the actual walls and door.

Since I couldn’t do much in the way of cleaning, because I would have had to ask where to put everything, I was given the task of cloning hard drives. There was about 20 hard drives to clone, and once I was instructed as to how to do it for those specific hard drives, I was on my own. Near the end I was able to switch out the hard drives and get the cloning started pretty fast. However, I was reminded yet again about one of the bad aspects of the job: there’s not a lot you can do when your computer has to do all the work. I was left with nothing to do but talk to the techies and surf the Internet.

Maybe I should have used that time to work on my Career Research Magazine more, but since the hard drives had to be switch
